Oracle Brings NetSuite Cloud In-House

Oracle has recently announced it will move all NetSuite users to its own cloud infrastructure -Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This significant move has ripple out (with exponential growth) effects for the next 5 to 10 years.

Oracle purchased NetSuite in July 2016, earning them the honor of acquiring the first cloud company, and gaining access to a robust SME (Small Medium Enterprises) and MM level ERP system. This double whammy high-stakes move gave them a leading edge into the transition that all businesses are going through right now – adoption of “single source of truth” databases while being hosted on 100% cloud infrastructure.

Now, Oracle is taking the next huge step by bringing all NetSuite users “in house” onto its own cloud infrastructure. Massive move. Not only does this mean that it will have greater control over NetSuite accounts, but in order to fulfill those requirements, it’s evidence of Oracle’s growing capacity to compete with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, positioning itself to capture more of the cloud market space.

The transition starts this year in New York, with phased roll-“ins”? occurring around the world. Take a look at this interview by ZDNet.

Certainly, every NetSuite user which Oracle successfully moves to its OCI carries it closer to being able to host more and provide stronger cloud-based options. It may be a while before AWS feels the heat, but it might give the next in line something to think about.
